What is comedogenicity and why is it important?

Comedogenicity refers to a product’s ability to clog pores. Using oils with high comedogenicity can lead to blackheads, breakouts, or even acne. However, if you choose an oil with low comedogenicity, you can achieve hydrated and healthy-looking skin without the risk of clogged pores. Understanding comedogenicity helps you choose the right products for your skin type and avoid issues related to pore congestion.

How does the comedogenicity scale work?

Comedogenicity is measured on a scale from 0 to 4:

  • 0: The oil does not clog pores.
  • 1–2: Very low to moderately low likelihood of clogging pores.
  • 3–4: Higher likelihood of clogging pores.

The oilier and more problematic the skin, the better it is to choose oils with the lowest possible comedogenicity. These oils won’t burden the skin but will instead support its regeneration and renewal.

Which oil is suitable for your skin type?

  • Oily skin: Choose oils with a comedogenicity of 0–1, such as Organic Golden Jojoba Oil, Organic Lavender Oil, or Organic Castor Oil. These oils regulate sebum production and do not burden the skin.
  • Dry skin: Comedogenicity is not as important; oils with a value of 1–2 are suitable, as they deeply nourish the skin and lock in hydration. For example, Organic Rose Facial Oil with Prickly Pear and Q10 or Organic Amber Deep‑Regenerating Facial Oil.

How to use facial oils correctly?

Proper cleansing is the most important step in your skincare routine – it is the foundation for healthy, radiant skin and for skincare products to truly work. Even the most expensive serums and creams with the best active ingredients have no chance to be effective if the skin is not properly cleansed – their effectiveness is significantly reduced and, in essence, it’s money wasted. Why You Should Never Skip Double Cleansing Double cleansing is not just for makeup lovers. Even if you’re not wearing makeup in the evening, your skin still needs to be freed from sebum, sweat, and airborne impurities that have settled on it throughout the day. These layers create a kind of barrier that prevents active ingredients in skincare from penetrating the skin. Only after double cleansing do the pores open and the skin becomes ready to absorb everything you apply. How to Do Double Cleansing 1️⃣ First Step – Oil Balm, Cleansing Gel or Cleansing Oil The first phase of double cleansing focuses on dissolving makeup, SPF products, excess sebum, and other impurities. An oil balm or cleansing oil works as the first “deep-cleaning step” that prepares the skin for the second phase. Without it, the second step alone would not be sufficient, as water-based products cannot effectively remove oil-based residue. 2️⃣ Second Step – Foam The second step removes remaining impurities, sweat, and residues from the first phase. After this step, the skin is clean, fresh, and perfectly prepared for toning and for absorbing active ingredients from serums, oils, and creams. 💡 TIP: In the morning, one step is often enough – foam, balm, or cleansing gel – to remove sebum, impurities, and residues from overnight regeneration. 🌿 Complete Skincare Routine To ensure your double cleansing truly delivers results, we recommend following this routine: Step 1 – CleansingFirst phase: Apply a small amount of balm (pea-sized) to dry skin and gently massage for about 60 seconds until makeup and impurities dissolve. Add a little water – the balm will transform into a gentle milky emulsion. Rinse thoroughly or remove with a damp towel. Second phase: Apply cleansing foam to damp skin, gently massage for 60 seconds, and rinse with water. The skin is now clean, fresh, and ready for the next steps.Tip: In your morning routine, only one cleansing phase is sufficient – a cleansing gel, balm, or foam. Step 2 – ToningAfter cleansing, use a toner or facial booster to gently tighten pores and prepare the skin for better absorption of active ingredients from subsequent products.
